Politica Magazine: 3, 5-7, 9-11, 13 (eight numbers)

Politica is a very rare Social Demócrata publication, edited and published by Editorial Cordillera and printed by Editorial Arte in Venezuela. Luis Beltrán Pietro Figueroa (1902-1993) was the director. As part of their editorial board, we can mention renowned politicians such as Gonzalo Barrios, Alejandro Oropeza Castillo, and Mariano Picon Salas. The publication had unpublish essays by international writers like Manuel López-Rey, Luis Reissig and Manuel Rojas, Diogenes de la Rosa, Gilberto Freyre, Ezequiel Martinez Estrada, René Dumont and Pierre Bovet and several former Venezuelan presidents such as Raúl Leoni (28.º President from1964-1969), and Romulo Gallegos (25.º President in 1948).

Luis Beltrán Pietro Figueroa, a prominent leftist politician occupied roles such as Minister of Education under Romulo Betancourt’s (1908-1981) administration, Deputy and President of the Assembly, founder of Instituto Nacional de Cooperación Educativa (INCE, now INCES), Founder Member and President of the Acción Democrática party and after that founder of the left party Movimiento Electoral del Pueblo (MEP).

As he was a strong advocate of human rights and social justice, the publication compiles topics such as: civilización industrial, agricultura, pedagogía, derecho internacional, democracia y dictadura en Latinoamérica, partidos social demócratas, democracia, socialismo, petróleo, conciencia nacional, etc. It was edited and published by Editorial Cordillera, the same publishing house that printed Rómulo Betancourt: posición y doctrina (after Betancourt’s return from the exile from Peréz Jimenez regime). The corresponding numbers of Política publications matches within Betancourt’s presidential period (1959-1961) from 1959 to 1961.

Eight numbers of offset publications are available. Square spine printed offset with a modernist soft cover in 2 spot inks, one black fort text and a second varies depending on the edition. Sometimes it has inserts of a different paper color for advertisement pages that reflect the context of the times within the mentioned periods.
