Zona Franca was one of the most relevant culture and literature magazines of the mid-century in Venezuela. It was founded in 1963 by Juan Liscano, Guillermo Sucre, and Luis Alberto Morales, leaders of the non-Marxist group of the Venezuelan left that fought against the dictatorship of Marcos Pérez Jiménez. In the case of Liscano, he was a very prominent poet, ensayist, critic and activist, editor, Director of the CONAC (Consejo Nacional de Cultura) and Monte Ávila Editores; similar to Guillermo Sucre, who was also a poet, ensayist, professor, editor, and one of the founders of Grupo Sardio in 1957, during the 70s he was the Editorial Director of Monte Ávila Editores.
Figures such as Elisa Lerner, Eugenio Montejo, Rojas Guardia, Vicente Gerbasi, Severo Sarduy, Juan Sánchez Pelaez, Ángel Ramos, Blanca Sterponi, Alfredo Silva Estrada, Pérez Perdomo, María Fernanda Palacios, Juan Calazadillas, Julio Miranda, Hanni Ossott, Maria Elena Ramos, Reynaldo Pérez So and Margara Russotto participated in these publicantions or can also be mentioned within this context.

Zona Franca was a perfect-bound magazine printed in offset with approximately 86 pages per volume. In the 1960s, it was distributed monthly in Caracas, Venezuela, and bimonthly in the 1970s and 80s.
